The South Koreans have come up with a brilliant solution, with those at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mudfestival.or.kr\/\">Boryeong Mud Festival<\/a> not required to partake\u00a0in the\u00a0familiar testosterone circus\u00a0of\u00a0cardiovascular overkill; rather, participants simply play in and with mud all day, availing themselves of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mudfestival.or.kr\/exerciseProgram\/showEventDetail\/details_no-31.html\"> Giant Mud Bath<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mudfestival.or.kr\/exerciseProgram\/showEventDetail\/details_no-30.html\">Mud Prison<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mudfestival.or.kr\/exerciseProgram\/showEventDetail\/details_no-15.html\">Mud Soap-Making<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s festival will run July 17 through the 26, but it&#8217;s recommended you go on the earlier side while the mud is still fresh (it is basically, after all, a public pool with less accountability).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">North America<\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">Carnival of Santiago de Cuba<\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">Santiago de Cuba, Cuba<\/h5>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1144\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1144\" style=\"width: 719px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Tourism-g147273-Santiago_de_Cuba_Santiago_de_Cuba_Province_Cuba-Vacations.html\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1144\" src=\"https:\/\/eventblog.peatix.com\/experiences\/wp-content\/uploads\/carnaval-de-santiago-de-cuba-07.jpg\" alt=\"Most interesting event North America July 2015\" width=\"719\" height=\"479\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1144\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Above: Cubans surpassed the rest of the Western world in parade costume design decades ago<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Readers, there simply is no party like a country-that-has-just-recently-been-removed-from-the-State-Sponsors-of-Terrorism-List-Party. You could maybe argue for a Peaceful Coup or Expanded Voting Rights party being superior, but\u00a0based on how hard everyone\u00a0partied after Libya was stricken from the list in 2006 (no one I&#8217;ve spoken with\u00a0has any recollection of what they did that night) Cuba&#8217;s newfound terrorismlessness\u00a0is not an occasion that should go unobserved.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And what better way to say &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry, I don&#8217;t really think you&#8217;re a terrorist,&#8221; than in person, in Cuba! The Cuban summer Carnival, like a more regal version of Mardi Gras, provides\u00a0the perfect opportunity. What is more, the\u00a0most magnificent\u00a0mid-priced airline to ever take to the sky, Jetblue, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbcnewyork.com\/news\/local\/JetBlue-Flights-New-York-City-Havana-Cuba-Kennedy-Airport-JFK-302614151.html\">begins direct flights there on July 3rd<\/a>.\u00a0Part of your July this year then is best spent in Cuba,\u00a0lest the remaining\u00a0State Sponsors of Terrorism win.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Africa<\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">The Durban International Film Festival<\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">Durban, South Africa<\/h5>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1143\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1143\" style=\"width: 730px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.durbanfilmfest.co.za\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1143 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/eventblog.peatix.com\/experiences\/wp-content\/uploads\/South-Africa1-durban1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Best event Africa July 2015\" width=\"730\" height=\"486\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1143\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Above: Durban before it was destroyed by a nearby volcano. It&#8217;s still there.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.durbanfilmfest.co.za\/\">Durban International Film Festival<\/a> is now in its 36th year, which, by the way, makes it a mere year younger than Sundance. And it takes place in the city pictured above. Sundance <a href=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/3\/2387\/2078661728_390d0402e6.jpg\">takes place here<\/a>. Little competition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The festival takes place from July 16-26 and boasts more than 200 screenings, none of the screenings available on Netflix now or probably ever. In fact, you&#8217;ll\u00a0hardly find a more spectacularly breathtaking location to binge watch movies\u00a0this July\u00a0than the coastal oasis of Durban.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Europe<\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">G! Festival<\/a> of Syr\u00f0ug\u00f6ta (pronounced &#8220;Sooryawoogoota&#8221;&#8230;I&#8217;m pretty sure), a town of 400, is with little doubt the place to be for those fatigued by the stock\u00a0festival experiences provided by the uncurious\u00a0countries of the\u00a0earth.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Australia<\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">The Darwin Lion Beer Can Regatta<\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">Darwin, Australia<\/h5>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1142\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1142\" style=\"width: 730px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beercanregatta.org.au\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1142 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/eventblog.peatix.com\/experiences\/wp-content\/uploads\/DarwinBeerCanRegatta-1024x685.jpg\" alt=\"Best event Australia July 2015\" width=\"730\" height=\"488\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1142\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Above: the beer can has been the nautical building block of choice in Australia for hundreds of years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beercanregatta.org.au\/\">Darwin Beer Can Regatta<\/a> we find Australians at their near silliest, which is saying an awful lot. The event, which is near no major cities and wildly inconvenient to get to, is a must-see. Participants flirt with alcohol addiction for months to have enough beer cans to build their vessels, which then take to the seas in a fierce contest of buoyancy. The Regatta is not, ironically, BYOB, although there are beach bars nearby.\u00a0With the event on July 12th less than a month away, you&#8217;ll need to get to Australia pretty much asap to begin drinking\/construction.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">South America<\/h2>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">International Literary Festival of Paraty<\/h4>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">Paraty, Brazil<\/h5>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1164\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1164\" style=\"width: 939px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flip.org.br\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-1164 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/eventblog.peatix.com\/experiences\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screen-Shot-2015-06-15-at-4.05.19-PM.png\" alt=\"Most interesting event South America July 2015\" width=\"939\" height=\"319\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1164\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Above: Take a luxurious literary getaway to Brazil.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><\/h5>\n<p>Over the last 13 years the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flip.org.br\/\">International Literary Festival of Paraty<\/a> has blossomed into one of the world&#8217;s great\u00a0celebrations of the written word. And the festival&#8217;s setting doesn&#8217;t hurt its cause one bit: Paraty, situated south of Rio and north of S\u00e3o Paulo, displays\u00a0a mixture of coastal splendor and narrow curving stone road quaintness that\u00a0makes for near perfect <a href=\"https:\/\/yearlongbreakup.files.wordpress.com\/2010\/11\/paraty-28.jpg\">Instagram fodder<\/a>.
