It never fails to wow audiences with a dynamic percussion display of traditional and modern Japanese taiko drum pieces.

This year, four highly accomplished performers will take the stage at the NUS University Cultural Centre Theatre. Three of whom are from Japan including an ex-KODO (an internationally-renowned taiko group) member who’s played in a music video for Coldplay & Rihanna, a Guinness World Record setter for the largest flute ensemble, and a group of young talented taiko drummers aptly dubbed “Super Taiko Junior” group! On top of that, homegrown ZingO Festival Drum Group, a prominent leader in the local Chinese drum scene will showcase a unique drumming repertoire accompanied by choreography akin to martial arts.

Under the weight of all those achievements, it sounds like a terribly exciting and highly energetic performance not to miss!

But what’s unbeknownst to many in the audience, there lies a deeper motivation to Hibiki beyond entertaining the crowd. The organisers, Hibikiya, hopes to draw attention back to the tsunami-devastated regions of Japan, in particular Tohoku, by musically connecting audiences to its rich culture and history by showcasing musicians from the area.

How meaningful, and something that hopefully resonates with you at the end of Hibiki.

Now, prep yourselves for a feet-tapping, head-nodding, jaw-dropping feast for the senses – let’s get ready to taiko!

Experience the fourth annual Hibiki concert for yourself, get tickets at $35 on Peatix or $40 at the door.
Sunday 20 July 2014 / 4pm-630pm / University Cultural Centre Theatre

ZingO Festival Drum Group

Terms & Conditions

This contest closes at 1pm Thursday, July 17 2014.
