More about Hibiki IV: Where Modern Meets Traditional Music<\/strong>
\nHibiki (or resonance in Japanese) is an annual concert in its fourth year running that\u2019s quite unlike any other gig you\u2019d go to in Singapore. It never fails to wow audiences with a dynamic percussion display of traditional and modern Japanese taiko drum pieces.<\/p>\n

This year, four highly accomplished performers will take the stage at the NUS University Cultural Centre Theatre. Three of whom are from Japan including an ex-<\/a>KODO<\/a> (an internationally-renowned taiko group) member<\/a> who\u2019s played in a music video for Coldplay & Rihanna, a Guinness World Record setter<\/a> for the largest flute ensemble, and a group of young talented taiko drummers aptly dubbed \u201cSuper Taiko Junior<\/a>\u201d group! On top of that, homegrown ZingO Festival Drum Group<\/a>, a prominent leader in the local Chinese drum scene will showcase a unique drumming repertoire accompanied by choreography akin to martial arts.<\/p>\n

Under the weight of all those achievements, it sounds like a terribly exciting and highly energetic performance not to miss!<\/p>\n

But what\u2019s unbeknownst to many in the audience, there lies a deeper motivation to Hibiki beyond entertaining the crowd. The organisers, Hibikiya<\/a>, hopes to draw attention back to the tsunami-devastated regions of Japan, in particular Tohoku, by musically connecting audiences to its rich culture and history by showcasing musicians from the area.<\/p>\n
