He deals with modern Cambodia and the traumatic legacy of the Khmer Rouge regime through films such as\u00a0<em>Rice People<\/em>\u00a0in 1994, the harrowing\u00a0<em>S-21: The Khmer Rouge Killing Machine<\/em>\u00a0in 2003 and\u00a0<em>The Missing Picture<\/em>\u00a0(winner of Cannes\u2019s Un Certain Regard prize and Cambodia\u2019s first film to be nominated for an Academy Award) in 2013.
