Similar in humour yet differing in depth were some of the poems heard at last night\u2019s Poetry Slam, organised by Word Forward<\/a>. It was the inaugural event of CRAFT<\/a>, a four-day festival by A for Arbite celebrating dedication, hard work, and creativity!<\/p>\n Image Credit: Craft<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n How does slam poetry work, you might ask? Basically, it\u2019s a battle of wit, poetic prose and extra points for a great performance! Beginning with 12 poets, four are eliminated each time over three rounds till a final victor emerges with the most points as judged by members of the public. Competition was stiff with the poets falling close behind on points.<\/p>\n We had poems about iPhones, clouds, rules of cat living, a mouth ulcer, internalising thoughts whilst on a date, the desire to die a human rather than live a fool, having a sensuous connection with coffee, and so many more themes wound into poetic prose! It was a first and definitely an interesting experience as poets not only recited but also acted and poured out their emotions in tone and gestures.<\/p>\n The ultimate winner\u2026 He totally deserved it, giving consistent performances over all three rounds in reciting his poems with much passion, confidence, and wisdom.<\/p>\n If you\u2019d like to try your hand at crafting poetry, do sign up for The Craft of Poetry<\/a> workshop \u2013 one of the many workshops held over the four-day CRAFT event at A for Arbite.
