Like Streamyard<\/a>, OBS Studio<\/a> is a popular and free Broadcasting software commonly used for video recording and live streaming and it has versions compatible with most Operating Systems such as Windows, OS and Linux. Once installed, event organizers can easily use OBS to start broadcasting both pre-recorded or live content onto Peatix Live<\/a> to start streaming to registered attendees only!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Setting up<\/strong> OBS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1 – Make sure you’ve selected “Peatix Live” as the streaming method on your event page<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve selected \u201cPeatix Live<\/strong>\u201d as the streaming method for your event, simply go to the \u201cBroadcast<\/strong>\u201d tab on your event page and you should see the following recommended settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2 – Launch OBS, copy and paste “server URL” and “Stream Key” information from Peatix onto OBS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Launch OBS and at the bottom right-hand corner of the window, you should see \u201cControls<\/strong>\u201d -> \u201cSettings<\/strong>\u201d. Click on “Settings<\/strong>” and on the left panel, select the \u201cStream<\/strong>\u201d tab. Head back to your Peatix \u201cBroadcast<\/strong>\u201d page to copy the \u201cServer<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cStream Key<\/strong>\u201d details, and paste them into the corresponding OBS fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Note that every event page generates a unique stream key, hence ensure this is the right event page you are planning to use for your Peatix Live event.<\/em>

Step 3 – Copy and Paste details into “Output” tab<\/strong>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you are done with pasting the Server and Stream Key details, go to the \u201cOutput<\/strong>\u201d tab on the left panel. Here, you will insert some of the other recommended settings shown in the Peatix Broadcast page, such as the \u201cEncoder<\/strong>\u201d, \u201cRate Control<\/strong>\u201d, \u201cBitrate<\/strong>*\u201d, \u201cKeyframe Interval<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cCPU Usage Preset<\/strong>\u201d information. Simply follow the recommended settings shown in the Peatix page and paste them accordingly in the same fields on the Output tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*The recommended bitrate of 4500 kbps works best if you’re streaming with a stable and high-speed internet. If your internet speed is less than ideal, try lowering the bitrate to 2500-3000 kbps for a smoother stream.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4 – Copy and Paste information into “Video” tab<\/strong>
<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, select the \u201cVideo<\/strong>\u201d tab on the left panel and change both the \u201cBase<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cOutput resolution<\/strong>\u201d, as well as the \u201cCommon FPS value<\/strong>\u201d as per the recommended settings on the Broadcast page. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 5 – Save settings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you have changed all the settings above, simply click \u201cOk\u201d<\/strong> at the bottom right corner of the \u201cSettings<\/strong>\u201d screen to save the settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding content<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1 – Adding Pre-recorded Content<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that you\u2019ve customized your settings, it\u2019s time to start adding the content to be streamed. To do that, simply work with the \u201cSources<\/strong>\u201d tab at the bottom of the OBS home screen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned earlier, OBS gives you the flexibility to stream both pre-recorded or live content. If you\u2019re choosing to stream a pre-recorded video clip, simply click \u201c+<\/strong>\u201d at the bottom right corner of the \u201cSources<\/strong>\u201d tab, select \u201cMedia Source<\/strong>\u201d -> \u201cCreate New<\/strong>\u201d and click \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d. A window will pop up for you to select the file you would like to upload. Simply click \u201cBrowse<\/strong>\u201d to locate the file and select \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once done, the \u201cSource<\/strong>\u201d tab should reflect your selected video as the \u201cMedia Source\u201d you\u2019ve chosen to stream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1a – Streaming Live Content<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are planning to stream live content or to perform live via your webcam, inbuilt or external camera, under the \u201cSources<\/strong>\u201d tab, click on \u201c+<\/strong>\u201d -> \u201cVideo Capture Device<\/strong>\u201d. Select \u201cCreate New<\/strong>\u201d and click \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d. Next, under \u201cDevice<\/strong>\u201d, click on the dropdown menu, select the camera or device of your choice and select \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d. Here, you can also ensure that your \u201cPreset<\/strong>\u201d resolution follows the same resolution settings as recommended on the Peatix Broadcast page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve clicked \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d, \u201cVideo Capture Device<\/strong>\u201d should appear under your \u201cSources<\/strong>\u201d tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1b – Adding audio to your live content<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that you\u2019ve got your camera in place, you\u2019ll want to make sure that you\u2019re not just seen but heard as well! The next step is to add an audio source, so audiences can hear you loud and clear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To do that, simply return to the \u201cSources<\/strong>\u201d tab, click \u201c+<\/strong>\u201d and select \u201cAudio Input Capture<\/strong>\u201d. Select \u201cCreate New<\/strong>\u201d and click \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d. Under \u201cDevices<\/strong>\u201d, choose the audio device, whether it is your computer\u2019s in-built mic or an external device that you\u2019ll be using for the stream and select \u201cOk<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once that is done, you should see the \u201cAudio Capture Device<\/strong>\u201d added to both the \u201cSources<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cAudio Mixer<\/strong>\u201d tabs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going Live<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now that you\u2019ve got all your settings and content in place, you\u2019re ready to start streaming and broadcasting onto Peatix Live! To go live, simply click on \u201cStart Streaming<\/strong>\u201d under the \u201cControls<\/strong>\u201d tab at the bottom right corner of the OBS home screen. Tip! If you would like to record a copy of your stream content, you can also do so by selecting the \u201cStart Recording<\/strong>\u201d option in the \u201cControls<\/strong>\u201d tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember to click “Start Streaming” to start broadcasting your event onto Peatix Live<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve clicked on \u201cStart Streaming<\/strong>\u201d, give it approximately 10-15 secs for your content to start appearing on Peatix Live. To observe what is currently being broadcasted and streamed on Peatix Live, simply return to the Peatix page and click on the \u201cWatch<\/strong>\u201d tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ending the stream<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ready to end the stream? Simply return to the \u201cControls<\/strong>\u201d tab in OBS and click \u201cStop Streaming<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Always remember to stop your stream on OBS when the event ends<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Lastly, note that the recommended settings generated on your Peatix Broadcast page are dependent on the content quality you\u2019d like to see streamed. However, if your internet connection or setup environment is less than ideal, you can also consider changing the \u201cVideo Size<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cVideo Quality<\/strong>\u201d options to generate lower recommended settings for input into OBS to better support your stream!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
