With multiple streaming options available for your online event, it can sometimes be difficult or confusing to decide which is the most suitable solution. Depending on your event nature and format, here are some things to consider:
1) First, are you planning to:
- Charge and collect registration details from attendees for your event?
- Host your event in a secured environment where only registered attendees get access to the livestream?
- Manage or communicate with your attendees before / after the event?
- Stream to multiple locations e.g. on Peatix + Zoom + Vimeo + FB live?
If you’ve answered Yes to all of the above, you may want to consider using an event discovery & ticketing platform like Peatix to list and sell tickets to your events. This not only allows organizers to market and promote your event to Peatix users, but also provides a payment and registration channel where attendees are able to buy tickets and sign up for the event.
Planning on a free, livestream broadcast where your content can be easily accessed by a larger audience and not too concerned with who’s tuning in? Make use of the free live streaming features available on the major social media platforms such as Facebook Live, Instagram Live or YouTube Live and gain access to a wider reach. However, note that while these features are mainly free to use, there may be some restrictions on certain functionalities such as, only having a maximum of 1 host (on Facebook) and 2 hosts on Instagram and you may want to consider using a third-party live streaming platform such as Streamyard to invite more guests onto your live stream event.
2) If you’ve established that you’ll need to host your event in a secured environment where only registered attendees are able to access the event’s contents, the next question to ask would be, do you require to be able to watch and hear what your attendees are doing?
A good example would be events like, a hands-on craft workshop, or a language class, where you would require real-time exchanges to monitor your attendees’ progress. If you’ve answered Yes, you can first list your event on Peatix where attendees could discover and purchase tickets to your event, and consider linking out to host your online event on a conferencing platform such as Zoom, Google Meet or Microsoft Teams that allows you to have face to face interactions with participants in the room.
With the “Additional Notes” section within your Peatix event page, you can enter details of the Conferencing URL and this information will be made available only to registered attendees, streamlining both the ticket purchase and event attendance process.
3) If you’re looking to live stream your event without having to see your attendees (e.g concerts, theatre acts, presentations etc…) why not consider using Peatix Live or the latest Vimeo embed option?
With Peatix Live, you can either live stream your event directly on Peatix via a webcam or use a third-party software such as OBS, Streamlabs or Streamyard that could even allow you to broadcast pre-recorded content. With all-inclusive fees of only 5% + $2 SGD (or RM 6) per ticket sold, you’ll only need to pay fees for every ticket sold without having to worry about the bulk cost of a one-time setup fee or a recurring subscription plan. leaving you with more flexibility to manage your budget.
4) Already have a paid Vimeo premium plan?
With our latest Vimeo-embed option, you can now also broadcast or live stream your Vimeo content in a secured and exclusive environment, made available to your paid attendees only. Simply embed the Vimeo link when creating your event pages and registered attendees will be able to sign in to Peatix and view the online event at the stipulated start time to watch your show.
Tip: The Vimeo premium plan also provides a Live Chat option for live streams. If you already have an existing Vimeo premium plan and would like to include an interactive element to your Live Stream event, you can also choose to enable the feature on Vimeo and attendees can simultaneously participate in the Live Chat during the live stream event.
There you have it. With Online events being more common, there is no lack of live streaming options to support your event but consider your objectives and pick the option best suited for your requirements!
